10 WWE Releases AEW Needs To Sign

5. Lio Rush

It feels like light years ago now, but Lio Rush was just getting into something super interesting with CZW when WWE came knocking. The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion was thriving with a then-new Blackheart character, complete with fantastic slow-paced entrance, knocking it out the park once the bell rang. Then the WWE contract was offered, and the wrestling world was denied the next evolution of Lio Rush.

The prevailing opinion was that Lio Rush would never get a fair shot in WWE because of his size. Sure, he didn’t main event WrestleMania, but the Man of the Hour still picked up a wealth of experience to go alongside his one reign as WWE Cruiserweight Champion. It could have been a lot more, but it wasn’t a total washout.

A supremely talented professional wrestler, a man of Lio Rush’s abilities should be on AEW’s radar. Throw in his musical work, his willingness to self-produce promo videos, not to mention the fact that he is still only 25 years old, and signing Lio Rush becomes a most obvious move.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
