10 WWE Returns We Can Expect For 2018
3. CM Punk
Ever since Punk walked out on WWE following the 2014 Royal Rumble, his return to the sport has been a recurring subject of debate: some say he'll never come back while others believe it's inevitable. Whichever side of the fence you lie, the subject itself is fascinating.
Following his hugely disappointing start to his UFC career in September 2016, losing in just over two minutes to Mickey Gall by submission, Punk has yet to fight again. Worse still, a second fight has rarely been discussed as a realistic prospect and no date or opponent has ever been mentioned with any serious finality.
Punk's first fight was a curiosity to both wrestling and MMA fans. After his lacklustre performance, his second will need to prove a point. Failure to do so will likely mean the end of his UFC dream; however, it would almost certainly open the door to a WWE return.
If he does wish to stick to MMA, Bellator would no doubt snap him up immediately. However, it would be akin to Brock Lesnar being offered a place in the CFL when his NFL career didn't work out. If Punk and WWE can find an amicable solution to their on-going lawsuit in the mean time, 2018 could well be in for another "Summer of Punk".
