10 WWE Stars Undertaker Failed To Elevate To The Next Level

9. Luther Reigns

For a short period in 2005, WWE wanted to see if Luther Reigns could become something more than a hired gun. After all, he had the 'big guy' look that Vince loved, and looked very intimidating. Given those assets, it was hoped that he could become a strong draw as a top star, which is why he was placed in a short feud with the Undertaker. Unfortunately, that feud had the exact opposite result of the one intended. Reigns had one major match with the Deadman at No Way Out 2005, and it was in that match that Luther's flaws and lack of experience were badly exposed. His in-ring work was very shoddy, and he had very little in terms of unique personality. That match, and the brief storyline that led to it, was Luther Reigns' one opportunity to prove to WWE's powers-that-be that he was more than just a big man with the right look. Regrettably for him, a high-profile match with the Undertaker wasn't enough for him to elevate himself to a higher position. Because of that disappointing match, WWE had to shoehorn the Undertaker into a new rivalry with Randy Orton. While that was the right decision, the build-up to WrestleMania felt short and rushed, mainly because WWE was misguided in their attempt to make Luther Reigns a bigger star at the Undertaker's expense.
