10 WWE Stars Who Teased Leaving In A Big Way
4. John Cena
Way back in 2011, when people dared to believe in a world where CM Punk could actually defend the WWE title in New Japan or Ring of Honor, there was another tease which momentarily set the internet on fire.
John Cena, thoroughly entrenched in the hottest narrative to appear on WWE screens in eons, found himself in a tough spot on the night after Punk had wandered out of the company with their most storied belt. He'd lost the vital match and therefore would be fired by Vince McMahon on Monday Night Raw... but not before he dropped one last bombshell.
Setting the stage for McMahon to luxuriate in the trademark theatrics which tend to accompany his on-air terminations, Cena simply stated that he 'loved the WWE' before landing a finishing blow by telling the boss that - if he made him walk out of the company - he would 'walk on someone else's television show and keep doing this, brother.'
The message was heard loud and clear all over the wrestling world. Cena was teasing a move over to McMahon's only real rival in the Hulk Hogan/Eric Bischoff directed TNA.
No, this was never realistically going to happen. But, are you telling me your jaw didn't drop to the floor when Cena landed this titanic name-drop? It leaned further into the reality-based twists and turns which had preceded it and for a millisecond fans entertained the idea of the face of WWE plying his trade inside of the enemy's ring.
