An anomaly, yes, but the record books do state that in his second ever pay-per-view match on a WWE produced show, Sabu challenged for a WWE World title. The World Heavyweight Championship to be exact, a title that was held by Rey Mysterio at the time.

The match came at One Night Stand in 2006, which was a decidedly less-ECW affair than the first one a year prior. At that event Sabu came up against the last-ever ECW Champion (no, not Ezekial Jackson) Rhyno, a match that the Modern Day Kamikaze won.

His match with Mysterio went to a No Contest after Sabu hit the Ultimate Underdog with a frankly ridiculous Springboard DDT through a table on the outside.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
