2. Austin Vs McMahon Feud Becomes Real
Austin vs McMahon was the greatest WWF narrative ever, the rebellious wrestler against the tyrant owner. Fans bought into it in a big way, propelling the WWF to their biggest business boom ever. It was all a fiction of course, Austin didn't really believe McMahon was out of touch, neither did McMahon really believe that Austin had a bad attitude. They took a whole load of verbal digs at each other, but it was all just to further a storyline. Fast forward to the summer of 2002 and ironically the pair really had started feuding. Now McMahon really did believe Austin had a bad attitude. Austin on the other hand now started to feel as his character previously did, believing that McMahon had became a dinosaur who had lost sight of good business. The two were at loggerheads, mostly over creative disputes. "I think some of the writing has been pretty shi**y, I'll go one better, it has been pi** poor" Austin stated on WWF's own 'Byte This' show. Vince McMahon responded in turn, stating that Austin was "the most demanding wrestler I've ever had to work with." Only one person was ever going to win the real life feud, Vince McMahon. Austin quit the WWF over his issues with Vince in July 2002, leading McMahon to run a 'smear' campaign about "Austin taking his ball and going home". Thankfully, both sides have since worked things out, with both expressing regret over the falling out.
