10 WWE SummerSlam Hidden Gems You Need To Check Out

7. Owen Hart vs. Savio Vega (1996)

It's a testament to how fantastic Owen Hart was as a performer that fans revere him the way they do. Even though he was rarely given a top line run in the promotion, the younger Hart sibling is remembered fondly by all. On the flipside, a lot of wrestling fans don't hold Savio Vega in quite the same category, but both guys were responsible for opening SummerSlam 1996 with a bang. The show is best-remembered for the 'Boiler Room Brawl' between The Undertaker and Mankind, as well as the WWF Title main event between Vader and Shawn Michaels. In the opener, Hart and Vega had the crowd in the palm of their hands. Savio Vega was fresh off a decent push in the company, and Owen was a terrific heel for him to work against. On one hand, it was strange to see the show open up with a villainous victory from Hart. Thankfully, the action in the bout was sufficient enough that fans were willing to overlook the result. Sure, those around ringside were furious at Owen for using the cast on his arm against Savio, but that only added to the heat of the match.
