10 WWE Superstars Who Helped Define Extreme Rules
1. John Cena
Perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, John Cena tops this list for his consistent showing in top-tier matches at the Extreme Rules PPV. He’s featured in a total of three WWE Championship matches, defeating Batista, the Miz and John Morrison in a Triple Threat and fighting to a no content with Ryback in 2013.
He’s also scored victories over the Big Show and Brock Lesnar, with his only defeat coming at the hands of Bray Wyatt last time out in a Cage match with a finish that was anything but clean.
That gives Cena a rather Hogan-esque record of 5-1 at the event. And while I’ve been keen to reiterate the fact that numbers don’t mean everything in WWE, when you’ve displayed as much dominance as Cena has, it’s difficult to look beyond such a record.
A United States Championship bout with Rusev this year promises to be yet another exciting clash, and one in which Cena will likely further assert his dominance at Extreme Rules.
He may not be the name that first springs to mind when you mention he extreme style of wrestling, but for his achievements on the WWE’s most extreme night of the year, Cena must be considered the man who has helped defined Extreme Rules the most.
