At the time Darren Young and The Prime Time Players joined forces in February 2012, it was the best thing for them both, considering neither one of them were going anywhere on their own on NXT: Redemption. O'Neil was a talented talker and Young was decent in the ring, and together, they were a highly entertaining tandem.

Unfortunately, the timing was never right for them to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship at any point in 2012 or 2013. They embarked on a babyface run as a unit in the summer of 2013, getting over as fan favorites. Instead of sticking with them as a tag team, however, WWE opted to split them up in January 2014 because they saw singles potential in O'Neil.

Not only did the split come out of nowhere, the subsequent feud that followed between them was fairly forgettable, and they went on to accomplish nothing in the singles ranks. It was a total waste of a year until they put their differences aside in February 2015 and returned to the tag team division, eventually winning the WWE Tag Team Championship at Money in the Bank.

They split once again mere weeks after dropping the tag titles.
