10 WWE Title Reigns That Proved Utterly Pointless

1. Kane (1998)

Kane remains one of the longest-running active characters on WWE television. Aside from a few short breaks, Glenn Jacobs has played the persona of The Undertaker's brother since 1997. Even though he's often been featured, Kane hasn't really been a focal point of the WWE Title scene over the years. It could be argued that the character doesn't really need titles to stay important, which is a fair point. If true, it makes it even more confusing that Kane was booked to defeat Steve Austin at the King Of The Ring 1998, then drop the belt back to him the next night. Winning a 'First Blood' war on the Pay-Per-View, Kane lost out to Austin on the following edition of Raw. Was there really any need to break Austin's first big run with the WWF Title? Having created history at WrestleMania XIV against Shawn Michaels, 'Stone Cold' was clearly a deserving World Champion. The biggest star in the company at that point, it was unnecessary to have him lose the title briefly to Kane. This is another title change that did nothing for anybody involved, least of all Kane. What other WWE or World Heavyweight Title reigns would you deem pointless? Do you agree with the ones listed here? Let us know what you think down in the comments section!
