9. The New Day Vs. The Revival

Your writer observed as this match kicked off the pay-per-view proper that Kofi Kingston had started the 2010s in a major main event compared to his placement as curtain-jerker here, and though the curio is laced with a wink and a nudge (Kingston was in the Royal Rumble match for all of three minutes in 2010, and is clearly an established and beloved upper midcarder in 2019), that foreboding sense of futility overpowered what was technically rather wonderful.

The Revival and The New Day innovated as they always do, finding new ways to do damage with ladders whilst closing a lot of logic gaps split wide open by the stipulation in prior years. But to what end exactly?

The four took some bruising bumps here because it's the December pay-per-view and goddamnit pal if they are allowed to be home with their families for Christmas at all they'd better be in the most pain possible. It neither serviced nor satisfied their "feud", nor did it augment a victory for Kingston and E by the end.

'A+' for effort, dragged down by the 'F-' awarded to Michael Cole for talking about Kofi's amazing year like his historic triumph wasn't stubbed out like a dead cigarette.
