Daniel Bryan returned as the living embodiment of one of those 2010 Vs 2019 tweets following Bray Wyatt's victory over The Miz, but the reveal of his new hair and beard packed more of a punch than his series of attacks on the Universal Champion.

Bryan is brilliant but this is always so - his relationship with the audience is one forged in iron and in keeping with the way all of pro wrestling used to work. As a villain, Bryan betrays nothing about his gimmick yet allows the contemporary fanbase to see behind his eyes and embrace his performative nous. As a babyface, he's the conduit for a level of affection that has existed since the last time he had this haircut. A love that will never ever die and one that benefits everything else it comes near.

The parallels extend to Wyatt again too. It was at the Royal Rumble 2014 that Bryan gave Bray his best ever match in the opener but fatalistically didn't feature in the evening's main event. They couldn't possibly do the same thing again six years later...could they?
