Remember when ECW was a weekly WWE branded show? In the show's dying embers, it's hard to believe that the ill-fated third brand could produce a match worthy of being memorable at all.

Low expectations allowed for stars that were surplus to requirements on Raw or SmackDown the chance to compete for a World title without the burden of having to carry the company. The Miz, John Morrison, Finlay and Matt Hardy took advantage of what was left of the spotlight and gave us a beautiful Number 1 Contender car-crash for the ECW title.

Sure, it had a few errors here or there but the closing stages of the match alone demonstrated the craftsmanship that went into making this something the crowd could invest in.

Hardy's victory (catching Morrison in mid-air only to deliver a thundering Twist of Fate) gave the dwindling fans a reason to cheer and it was more than they deserved after months of enduring a below-par product.
