10 WWE Wishes (That Will Never Come True)

7. AJ Lee Getting Her Due

The women’s evolution was the best thing to come out of WWE’s 2010s, and while the revisionism was a tad distasteful (namely the amount of credit Stephanie McMahon lavished on herself), pay per views like Evolution and the 2018 Royal Rumble were a great opportunity to celebrate women who were never used to the fullest in the bad old days, like Lita, Trish Stratus, and Beth Phoenix.

One woman whose influence is rarely mentioned, however, is AJ Lee. Before the Four Horsewomen, female PPV headliners, and WrestleMania main events, AJ was one of the best female talents (we won’t say “divas”) the company had to offer, explosive on the mic and more than proficient in the ring, though seldom given much time to work.

She even called out Stephanie publicly after the CBO supported fair treatment in Hollywood, pointing out that McMahon’s own company failed to practise what she preached.

Shortly before things changed for the better, AJ retired, citing injury and burnout. We don’t expect her to get back in the ring, but her role in the company should be more frequently celebrated - and possibly would be, were it not for her marriage to one CM Punk.
