10 WWE Wrestlers John Cena Shouldn't Have Beaten
Kevin Owens isn't the first rising start to fall victim to Cena. It's been happening for years...
With his first WWE Championship victory in 2005, John Cena became the new face of WWE and since then, no one has been able to knock him off his pedestal. From Triple H to Zack Ryder, he's mixed it up with just about everyone, and there aren't many main event stars he hasn't beaten.
In addition to not evolving as a character over the years, he's rarely put over younger talent when he should have. Whether he is to blame or management or a combination of both, it doesn't change that he had no business going over in a number of his past rivals.
Being the undisputed tog dog in WWE, he's always the guy rookies on the rise initially set their sights on. Naturally, being put in a program with The Champ should be considered a promotion of sorts, but rarely are Cena's foe better off are feuding with him; instead, they see their momentum drastically halted.
Many a men have had their undefeated streaks snapped by Cena with Kevin Owens the latest name to suffer that dreaded fate. If Owens' booking so far has been any indication, he should fare well for himself despite the defeat to Cena, but the same can't be said for the following Superstars.
10. Ryback
846874At a time when John Cena was out injured and there weren't many other viable options for then-WWE champion CM Punk to face at the 2012 Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, WWE thought on their feet and sped up Ryback's rise to the top by naming him the new No. 1 Contender to the gold. Going into the event, he was openly endorsed by Cena, which would come back to bite him down the line.
Breaking Ryback's undefeated streak in singles competition wasn't where WWE went wrong with Ryback; it was constantly putting him in matches that he couldn't win. Whether he was up against The Shield or Punk, he just couldn't buy a victory to save his life.
By the spring time, WWE once again needed a challenger to contend for the title against Cena, so they made the mistake of turning Ryback heel after WrestleMania 29. Without his signature "Feed Me More" chant, the Ryback character died a death, and placing him in a program with someone that wasn't ready to drop the strap wasn't the wisest move to make, either.
Following his loss to Cena in the Three Stages of Hell match at Payback, Ryback returned to "WWE Superstars" purgatory. It wasn't that he should've beaten The Champ, but he should have never feuded with him to begin with.
