Following a two year run in the tag team ranks, the Dirt Sheet Duo parted ways at the 2009 WWE Draft when The Miz shockingly turned on John Morrison. In doing so, he made an immediate impact as the newest member of the Raw roster and wasted no time in solidifying himself as a star on the rise by targeting the top dog on the flagship show, John Cena.

As each week passed, Miz continued to call out Cena, but because he was busy with Big Show, he never answered Miz's open challenges, leading to The Awesome One proclaiming he was "undefeated" against the former WWE champion. Once Cena's feud with Show concluded, he shifted his focus to Miz and challenged him to a one-on-one match at The Bash.

This marked Miz's first major singles match on pay-per-view and it couldn't have been against a bigger name in Cena. After all the momentum Miz scored that summer, however, Cena made quick work of him in their match, not allowing him to get in much offense before putting him away in less than five minutes.

Miz would eventually work his way back up the card and rekindle his rivalry with Cena at WrestleMania 27, but that one lousy loss to him derailed his growing popularity for a short time in 2009.
