Winning title gold in front of your hometown crowd on the Grandest Stage of Them All is a feat of which most WWE wrestlers can only dream - so there's absolutely no shame if 2017 turns out to the best 12 months of Naomi's career.

There's every chance this will be wrong, of course. She's young, and with Charlotte potentially set to jump back over to Raw once her feud with Ronda Rousey kicks into gear, there could perhaps be an opening at the top of the SmackDown tree early next year.

But competition across the company's three women's divisions is fiercer and more intense than ever before. Last month, five new NXT rookies made their main roster bows, with a host of others - all of them supremely talented - waiting in the wings.

Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks found out this year that, under these conditions, past performance is no guarantee of future opportunities, and it's possible that Naomi could face up to a similar prospect in 2018 and beyond.
