42. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (SummerSlam 1994)

Speaking of slick. Bret vs. Owen Hart matches wrote the book on slick in-ring work.

Most fans won't bat an eyelid that another bout between the famous brothers is higher up on the list. After all, that turned out to be a true classic that championed in-ring excellence over pomp and ceremony like few other 'Mania openers before it. OK, enough about that for now, because Bret and Owen worked miracles later the same year at SummerSlam 1994 too.

The Undertaker would end up cursing both for going over their allotted time on the card and forcing his dreary main event vs. "The Underfaker" to go shorter than planned. Being honest, the Hart siblings did everyone a giant favour there. Besides, Bret vs. Owen could've gone on for double the 32 minutes it did and nobody (except 'Taker and Brian Lee) would've complained.

As usual in 'Hitman' matches, the finish was logical and excellently-crafted. Owen's leg got trapped in the old blue bars of that clearly-painful WWF retro steel cage, and that allowed Bret to thumb his nose at his younger bro whilst climbing out for the victory. Owen's performance here was sensational. He almost managed to coax a sympathetic response from everyone watching on. Almost.

Undertaker might've hated that the Hart clan went so long, but no-one else did. It took unreal levels of talent to even try to match what they'd accomplished back at 'Mania X, but Bret and Owen wisely worked a different kind of war inside the steel cage. It's a pity this would be their final pay-per-view match as rivals.
