67. Anonymous GM Swoggle As ‘A Mob Boss’
Remember earlier when WWE's writers were called out for failing to book a satisfying ending to the 'what's in Erick Rowan's cage?!' story before pumping it onto TV? Well, a similar sort of issue cropped up during the whole 'Anonymous Raw GM' saga of 2010 and beyond. Exactly who was behind the mysterious MacBook messages Michael Cole read out tortured fans for a long, long time.
Unable to find anything that'd live up to the billing, WWE had Jerry Lawler and Santino Marella crack the case to learn that lil' Hornswoggle had been firing emails through to Raw all along. To say people were let down by this bombshell would be an understatement. Fans booed, and they had every right to do so.
Everyone and their dog could see that this was a complete cop out.
It was supposed to lead to more on the backend though. Raw’s infamously terrible 'Anonymous General Manager' angle was supposed to peak with Swoggle acting as a diminutive mob boss with ‘a Napoleon complex’ in 2010. In essence, he'd become the go to authority figure for the show and run riot with power mad decision making that left babyfaces infuriated and heels wondering if he was even out to help them either.
Doesn't that sound rubbish? It does a bit. The last thing WWE needed was to feature Hornswoggle as the single most important cast member on the show in 2010. That might've repelled viewers faster than a rekindled feud between the "Little Bastard" and Chavo Guerrero.
