101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened
27. ‘Dan Severn: 666’ Joins Ministry Of Darkness
MMA enthusiasts who watched Dan Severn do his thing on UFC cards between 1994-2000 might disagree with this sentiment, but...he was without doubt one of the most boring members of the WWF 'Attitude Era' roster. Big Dan the man simply didn't translate well to combat scripted for entertainment rather than legitimacy.
His stint as part of Jim Cornette's ill-fated NWA revival in 1997-1998 sucked, and fans weren't all that invested in any of the MMA stylings Severn brought to the ring. By early-1999, the WWF went off the deep end by asking Dan if he'd like to have "666" on his forehead before joining The Undertaker's Ministry Of Darkness group.
The answer was a firm no. No, Mr. Severn didn't want to have "666" on his forehead, and he wasn't going to say yes even if it led to a cushy spot in 'Taker's midst. According to follow up rumours, officials backstage warned Dan that he'd be jobbed out and cast aside as a joke figure if he didn't agree to it.
Firing back, Severn might've told them he'd shoot on everyone they put him in the ring with. If true, then there was only one solution: Dan had to leave the WWF and do something else. His arrival hadn't been greeted with the same fanfare that Ken Shamrock's had anyway, being honest, and now things were starting to get personal.
Scribbling the mark of the beast on his head wasn't something Severn wanted to do. Fair enough, but he shunned guaranteed TV time. 'So much for that' would sum up his WWF career.
