4. What’s Next For Women’s Division?

A new title and new vernacular for the performers does not a new Women’s Division make. The ditching of the word “divas” and scrapping of the Divas Championship are smart moves, no doubt, but how the women wrestlers are booked going forward is more of an indication of how this new “era” in women’s wrestling will unfold.

Rather than pass the torch to an insanely popular Sasha Banks at WrestleMania, WWE chose to keep the reintroduced Women’s Championship around Charlotte’s waist. That’s not necessarily the wrong move, and the genetically superior champ certainly is capable of carrying the title a bit longer to build up to a Banks title win.

In the interim however, what is next? Will Natalya step up to be a new challenger for Charlotte while Sasha toils away for another shot? And will women’s wrestling be a division-wide thing, or will we see the “wrestling women” and the “Total Divas division” exist in separate universes?
