11 Mentalities That Are Killing WWE

3. No One Gets To The Top Unless Vince Says So

When CM Punk broke his silence with his interview with Colt Cabana, one of his most damning indictments against WWE was that the only person they have long-term plans for is John Cena, and everyone else is left to their own devices when it comes to getting a push. At the same time, Vince McMahon made his infamous €˜brass rings€™ comment, arguing that no one since Cena has reached the top of the mountain, which includes several World Champions like Orton, Sheamus, Jeff Hardy, etc. It seems that every single character€™s success needs to have Vince€™s stamp of approval, which leads to characters being repackaged when coming to WWE from somewhere else, or in extreme cases (i.e. Zack Ryder), getting punished for getting over without any help from WWE whatsoever. This is an incredibly destructive mentality, as it prevents anyone from becoming an established and credible star. Vince needs to let his stars breathe and develop on their own; if he doesn€™t, then the WWE roster will continue to suffer from alleged €˜thinness€™. Concentrating on only one or two stars and leaving the rest high and dry will lead to boring and one-sided feuds, unmotivated employees, and uninspiring matches. If WWE ever want to create another €˜Stone Cold€™ Steve Austin or another Dwayne €˜the Rock€™ Johnson, they need to give their wrestlers the freedom they need to flesh out their characters on their own.
