11 Most Important Divas In The Monday Night Wars

Women who waged war.

During the Monday Night Wars, WCW's Monday Nitro and WWE's Monday Night Raw went head to head each and every week for ratings dominance, bragging rights, the perception of superiority, and eventually, total victory. What started as a back-and-forth battle turned in WCW's favor with the introduction of the New World Order in 1996, leading Nitro to an 83-week winning streak over Raw.

Of course, the tide would turn in 1998 €“ Raw would begin to edge out Nitro, and as WWE became more popular, the gulf widened. Raw continued to beat Nitro each and every week until WCW went out of business in 2001.

Many fans have fond memories of the Monday Night Wars, and the competition that drove both companies to keep their shows compelling. Some remember the nWo adding members every week and the sense of suspicion that pervaded Nitro, while others recall the sheer wildness of the Steve Austin-Vince McMahon feud as Raw broke new ground.

Still, an important €“ and overlooked €“ aspect of the Monday Night Wars was the hard work of the women in both companies. Often, segments featuring divas would cause huge shifts in ratings, and as such measurements were critical to WWE and WCW, the contributions of the ladies involved cannot be understated.

Here are the 11 most important divas in the Monday Night Wars.
