11 New Day WWE Moments We Won’t Soon Forget
1. 'KofiMania'
What else could top this list?
Kofi Kingston reaching the mountaintop after 11 years in the company and winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 has to be the biggest, brightest moment for New Day. Years of being viewed solely as a mid-card or tag guy and a “good hand”, Kofi finally got his moment on the grand stage when he defeated Daniel Bryan.
The sheer joy that radiated from Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods was palpable as fans erupted for this true, pure feel-good moment.
Although it was an individual accomplishment for Kofi, the WWE Championship victory really was a triumph for the entire New Day. They had achieved so much in their 4-plus years together by that point, pulling each other up and reaching heights they likely never would have achieved on their own.
Kingston was mired in a jobber-to-the-stars-level position when the New Day launched. Less than 5 years later, he was part of one of WWE’s most successful and popular acts competing for a top title at WrestleMania alongside his 2 best friends in the business. That doesn’t happen by accident.
'KofiMania' could be viewed as the culmination of the New Day’s rise as an act in WWE. They formed way back in 2014 because three guys were struggling to find their footing and become more than stereotypical characters. Then, they achieved tremendous success as a trio, but none of them had broken out as a singles star to that point. Kofi winning the WWE title and remaining part of New Day showed that an individual could achieve greatness while still existing within the group, and without tension.
Whether intentional or not, that’s a pretty damn cool message to send out into the universe.
