11 WWE Stars Who Made Appearances For Other Promotions
9. The Rock
Just like Kurt Angle in 2000, the Rock spent much of 1998 breaking out as a top singles star in WWE. And just like Kurt Angle in the year 2000, he was also shipped off for an outside appearance during his rise through the company ranks.
On May 29, 1998—just a few months prior to his maiden WWE title run, and less than a month before making the King of the Ring final—Rock fulfilled a booking for Border City Wrestling in LaSalle, Ontario, Canada.
The booking saw him team with D-Lo Brown, another WWE employee, to face Larry Destiny and Scott D’Amore in the main event of the show. Originally, he’d been scheduled to face D’Amore in singles action, defending his Intercontinental Championship, but a knee injury saw the match made into a tag bout to make Rock’s night slightly less strenuous.
Despite the change of plan, the show still managed to draw 1,050 fans which, at the time, was a record crowd for the promotion.
