11 WWE Title Changes That MUST Happen In 2023

5. United States Championship - Mustafa Ali

WWE came awfully close to losing Mustafa Ali, and should have taken his public request to leave the company as a wake up call. Thus far, they basically haven’t. Feuds have been teased with Seth Rollins (yes please!), Tomasso Ciampa (great!) and The Miz (fine!), but for the most part, he’s remained, as usual, gainfully employed but grossly underutilised.

Please, please let that change in 2023. Ali has demonstrated his ability to work as an effective heel - he’s a great talker and did his best with the sinking ship Retribution - but at present, he’s perfectly placed for a great babyface run, which suits his exciting in-ring style.

In the current US champion, Austin Theory, you have Ali’s diametric opposite. The company man, McMahon’s golden boy who couldn’t fail for trying for the most part in 2022. That’s not a knock on Theory, who brims with potential, but it’s fair to say he’s had the rub of the green where Ali hasn’t.

With the best will in the world, the US Championship isn’t the big prize Raw wants it to be, so the likes of Rollins and Lashley are better off away from it until a world title comes back to the red brand. As a mid card, workhorse champion, though, Ali could be a show stealer on a weekly basis.
