4. The Patriot

All that The Patriot is remembered for these days is that his theme song would later be used by WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle, albeit without the sleigh bells. In a previous era, The Patriot could have been a successful character, but the time for masked super heroes who were the physical embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, was long over in the WWF. This type of character would be one that WWE would openly critique and satirize with Kurt Angle and Mr. America.

Just as a sign of how dated he was, this is one of the wrestlers that Jim Cornette would tirelessly lobby for during booking meetings with Jim Ross, Vince Russo, Kevin Dunn, and Vince McMahon.

It's a shame his gimmick never did manage to catch on, because he was a decent enough wrestler, as evidenced by his work in both WCW and AJPW. He was just saddled with a bad gimmick. He would take on Bret Hart in a losing effort, with Hart still being a viscous pro-Canadian heel in front of the Louisville crowd. Things stayed bad the Patriot as he would go on to take more losses at the hands of the Hart Foundation, before quietly leaving wrestling
