12 Things WWE Owes To Mick Foley

1. Hellish Bumps At King Of The Ring 1998

Without doubt, Vince McMahon and the entire 'Hell In A Cell' concept owe a lot to Mick Foley. Few could have predicted the carnage that would take place at the 1998 King Of The Ring Pay-Per-View before it went on the air. After a fairly mundane under card, Mankind faced The Undertaker in the cage-based battleground shortly before the WWF Title main event. Due to what happened in that penultimate match, few really talk about Steve Austin vs. Kane. There was no way they could follow Mankind vs. 'Taker, not after what Foley agreed to put his body through. Looking for ways to top Undertaker's previous Cell bout against Shawn Michaels, Foley let his colleague hurl him from the top of the structure. He then plummeted through the announce table down below. As if that wasn't enough, Mick climbed the cage again. He was then hit with a Chokeslam through the top of the Cell, thundering into the ring below. On the way down, a steel chair thumped against his face, adding insult to injury. People went crazy for the match, which was more like a series of increasingly-risky bumps from Foley. Those falls helped establish Hell In A Cell as the most dangerous match in all of wrestling.
