12 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Royal Rumble
8. The Winner Of The Royal Rumble Doesn't Always Main Event WrestleMania
When somebody wins the Royal Rumble you usually hear Jim Ross, Michael Cole or whoever's calling the action yelling about how the winner is "going to WrestleMania." Of course, most of the other people in the Rumble match are going to WrestleMania anyway, but the reason for the excitement is because the winner is supposed to main event that show. The "main event" means the last match at WrestleMania. Some people in wrestling consider it to be any match on the card because there are often times a few big matches at a WrestleMania, but we know better. The last match is the main event. Starting in 1993 when WWE first started the "Rumble winner gets WrestleMania title shot" stipulation, here's a look at the winners that did not actually have the last match at that year's WrestleMania: Lex Luger (1994 although Bret Hart did and they tied), Shawn Michaels (1995), Steve Austin (1997), Vince McMahon (1999), Rey Mysterio (2006), The Undertaker (2007), John Cena (2008), Edge (2010), Alberto Del Rio (2011) and Sheamus (2012). Out of 22 winners from 1993, 10 of them didn't get to headline WrestleMania like they are supposed to. You won't hear WWE tell you that, of course.
