6. Sting In WWE
WWE built up to Sting's long-awaited debut in 2014. He appeared as a talking head in various clips to promote WWE 2K15 and pay tribute to his fallen ex-tag partner The Ultimate Warrior, then the company began selling Stinger merchandise over the summer. By the time Survivor Series rolled around, the ex-WCW and TNA hero was firmly under contract and ready to work a few matches.
People salivated over the prospect of an elusive bout with The Undertaker, but it'd never happen. Instead, Sting lost to Triple H at WrestleMania 31, then to Seth Rollins at Night Of Champions in September 2015. His only other 2 matches under WWE's banner? A short DQ win over Big Show on Raw, and a tag victory with John Cena vs. Rollins and Show (also on the flagship).
That was it. 4 fairly unsatisfying bouts were all the icon had to show for his time in WWE.
If everyone's being honest, he was at loggerheads with the promotion's style from day one. It didn't help that creative fetched some spades to dig up the dead 'WWE vs. WCW' idea over a decade after 2001's invasion, nor did it work for fans when Sting stared at the lights for Hunter during his very first match.
Throughout, Stinger came across as more of a guest who wouldn't be there long and didn't jive with the rest of the roster than a legend who belonged in WWE. His AEW run, whilst definitely still having occasional flaws, was one million times better.
