13 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Daffney
5. Shannon Donated Her Brain To Science
Whilst the pair were dating, Shannon told fellow worker Caleb Konley that she wanted to donate her brain to science so they could study it and hopefully help other people in the future. Konley told 'Dark Side Of The Ring' producers that's just the sort of person his ex-girlfriend was. She was battling a lot of stuff, but her first thought was how to help other folks.
Shortly after that chat, she signed paperwork agreeing to hand her brain over once she had passed away, and Spruill made her father Quentin promise that he'd green light the donation for research. She'd come to an agreement with the University Of Boston, and would become the first female brain in their study. Wow.
Living with bi-polar and the concussions was taking a huge toll on her by that point. Daffney was still around the industry in a non-wrestling role as a referee, authority figure etc, but then she decided she needed to get away from it. Several talking heads spoke about how Shannon would have dizzy spells when going down to make a count as a ref, for example.
Something had to give, and it was pro wrestling. There was no other solution unless she wanted things to get even worse.
Quentin was understandably shocked by his daughter's brain donation request when he first heard about it, because she seemed to be talking like it'd happen soon. That had to be hard for a dad to deal with, but he only wanted to make his little girl happy, and admired how she wanted to help others going through similar things.
