13 Wrestlers In Situations That Scared The Sh*t Out Of Them
3. John Cena Being Brock Lesnar's First Opponent After His Epic UFC Run
Brock Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012 as a UFC sensation. The plan Vince McMahon had was simple, book Brock to be a vicious MMA fighter invading the WWE. The man he'd go up against? None other than John Cena. The creative dynamics were spot on. On the one hand you had an ultra-legitimate cage fighter, on the other you had the phoney Cena who in older fans eyes had been the figurehead for why they stopped watching the product. If you hated the WWE franchise star you were tuning in to see him get his a** kicked. If you were one of the Cenation you also bought into it, desperate to see David conquer Goliath. On the night of their match at Extreme Rules, John Cena must have been concerned by the beating he was about to endure. What if Brock had forgotten how to work? What if Brock, who had spent years getting his mind, body and spirit for legitimate competitive action, got carried away and forgot the environment he was in and broke Cena's arm clean with a submission hold? Would Brock be able to remember this style of product isn't real? WWE booked the match to be ultra realistic in the opening stages. Cena was told that Brock would take him down for real, before unleashing a volley of ground and pound elbows into his head. This would add to the drama of the MMA vs WWE context. Cena can't have helped but to be nervous throughout the contest. Lesnar is a giant who can do whatever he wills. He ran at Cena like a bull, pounding the elbows into John's head until blood started flowing. Thankfully a beating was all Cena had to endure and no ligament breaks. But how many WWE stars in the locker room really would have had the balls to volunteer as Brock Lesnar's first opponent back with the WWE?
