In the three years following his loss in his debut at WrestleMania, it was more of the same for the often misused Bray Wyatt. Losing the members of The Wyatt Family, losing at WrestleMania to The Undertaker, being embarrassed by The Rock, and a serious back injury plagued the once promising career of The Eater of Worlds.

That all seemed to change when Wyatt was paired with Randy Orton in 2016. The two would be sole survivors at Survivor Series and Wyatt would finally win his first WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber. With The Viper winning the Royal Rumble match, a showdown between the former cohorts was set for WrestleMania 33. WWE was finally portraying Wyatt as the unstoppable monster that he was, and it seemed an easy decision to have Wyatt walk out of WrestleMania with his championship reign in tact.

Despite this, WWE decided to have the former Wyatt family leader once again lose at The Showcase of the Immortals. Instead of making the WWE Champion look strong on their biggest stage, they instead showcased their ability to project bugs on the ring canvas. While Randy Orton became a 13-tme World Champion, it once again kiiled all momentum Bray Wyatt had built.
