14 Ups & 5 Downs For AEW In 2021
Ups...
14. The Comeback From The Revolution Dud
Across two hilarious segments of television, AEW almost - almost - made fans thankful that the Revolution angle didn't go as planned.
Moxley and Kingston, within about three minutes, transformed from pitiable cosplayers into the best babyface team in pro wrestling. The genuinely funny, self-deprecating cross-talk condensed the appeal of the podcast you wished they had launched. Their chemistry was amazing, the lines ("Impact must have paid for the bomb...") even better. They were repaired instantly.
The storyline explanation was inspired, but this was main event business. Something else had to be done, and Kenny Omega and Don Callis heated the conflict back up with a fabulously smarmy piss-take. Recognising that humiliation was probably a better storyline driver than a cartoonish pseudo-kill-off, Omega ripped the piss out of the Mox/Kingston friendship that everybody had just fallen in love with. The sequencing of the post-Revolution Dynamite was just tremendous.
"69 me Don!" was amazing patter in and of itself, and it drove Mox and Kingston to embark on a revenge mission, complete with Nick Jackson's terrifying squealing, that was even funnier than the meme that started it all.
