4. Scott Hall
Halls instability and problems are well documented and he has had some shockingly low moments both on and off screen. Unfortunately his employers havent been particularly helpful in reigning his demons and crazy behaviour. Much like how the WWE used Michael Hegstrands real life instability and demons in storyline, WCW and the WWE were both complicit in using Halls crippling demons as a method of trying to advance exploitative narratives. Plenty of other wrestling writers have penned many column inches about Scott Hall so its not worth rehashing the gritty details. But it should be acknowledged that few depictions of Halls life have been quite as revealing as the ESPN E60 documentary that profiled his life and his struggles, and it is a film every wrestling fan should watch. In this documentary it was revealed that at just 25 years of age Hall killed a man outside a nightclub in self-defence after they got into a fight, and the other guy pulled a gun on him. He was charged with second degree murder, but ultimately the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL4IbTRRtSc Now, while there are plenty of wrestlers that have had to deal with a litany of tragedies, its not hard to imagine where the root of Halls mental instability and wild ways was born. Very few wrestlers have had the death of somebody else on their hands even accidentally which would be traumatic enough. Hall though, may be the only one who actually shot a man at point blank in the head outside a bar one night, and then was thrust into the spotlight after that.
