15 Things We Learned From WWE Unreal

12. Your Heart Will Break For Chris Park

Bless you, Abyss.

Big Chris Park apologised to Bruce Prichard for going long with Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk on the Netflix Raw debut. He was the main producer for that match, and the show was tightly controlled; Prichard told Unreal that people think WWE has a license to go as long as they want on Netflix. According to him, that's “not true”. However, by Bruce’s own admission, “there’s not much you can do” once wrestlers are out there doing their thing.

He does think that everybody backstage “has to be able to edit on the spot” though. It’s really tense watching Park say sorry to Prichard whilst the match is in progress. Bruce laughs right in his face. Eek! Admittedly, Prichard comes across as very aloof here, and it’s cool that WWE didn’t hide that. His attitude clashes with Triple H’s more relaxed and friendly way of doing things, and seems to be a throwback to the ‘rule by fear’ Vince McMahon era.

Obviously, live WWE TV is pressure-filled, but Park was fighting for his life here and you’d need a heart of stone not to feel for him. Prichard says the match “was over-written, it was over-produced, it was over-everything else”. That's when William Regal steps in to calm Park down as he anxiously asks if Bruce is mad at him.

Regal: “No. Make me happy, you be happy with yourself”. What a guy.

For the record, Triple H seemed thrilled with Punk vs. Rollins despite them going approx 2 and a 1/2 minutes longer than planned on the Netflix debut. He didn't personally chew Park out for what happened.
