15 Things You Didn't Know About WrestleMania (1995 - 2004)

3. WrestleMania X8 - Hogan Reenacted WrestleMania VI

During that famous dream match, the Hulkster busted out a trick that night that he had not used in over ten years. In fact, the last time Hogan had used the same act, including sympathy-generating mannerisms and facial expressions, was in the very same arena, the Toronto SkyDome, twelve years earlier at WrestleMania VI. During his legendary WrestleMania VI match, Hulk Hogan put over the Ultimate Warrior clean in the middle of the ring, in essence passing the torch from himself to the supposed new leader of the WWF. Obviously things did not work out the way the company had planned, but in doing the job the night of April 1, 1990, Hogan was able to garner sympathy from the Canadian crowd using the same facial expressions he would use in turning himself babyface against The Rock. On one hand, the SkyDome was unlucky for the Hulkster considering his 0-2 WrestleMania record at the venue. But in both of those outcomes, Hulk Hogan left the ring more over and with more crowd support than either of his opponents at the time, despite being the loser of the match. The reaction to Hogan at WrestleMania even convinced Vince McMahon to have Triple H drop the WWE Title to Hulk just a month into his reign at the next PPV, Backlash. Hogan was an all-time great worker and one needs to look no further than those two WrestleMania matches to see just exactly how crafty the Hulkster could be.
