15 Times WCW Was Better Than Literally EVERYTHING
4. Scott Hall Interrupts Nitro
Generally, major wrestling companies tended to hype someone's arrival by either announcing their debut ahead of time or by producing vignettes that introduced a brand new gimmick. Not WCW with Scott Hall. He walked to the ring unannounced on the 27 May 1996 Nitro during a match, grabbed the microphone and shut the whole show down with one solitary promo.
"You people know who I am, but you don't know why I'm here".
This launched The Outsiders story, and later fed into the nWo narrative. It was a crucial part of that. Without Hall debuting the way he had, the New World Order's invasion aura wouldn't have been so powerful. This wasn't something the WWF had thought to do. Yep, Vader's debut earlier in the year had been aided by his vicious assault on Gorilla Monsoon, but the fed had hyped his Royal Rumble performance ahead of time too.
They were doing things the old way. WCW, meanwhile, was pushing boundaries and creating something totally new. Without saying it, they had fans wondering if Razor Ramon had been sent to destroy the competition from within by McMahon. That, along with Hall continuing to use the put-on accent he had as Razor, created court room drama between both rival companies, but it defo helped the story initially.
It was super smart to have Hall debut without saying his name. WCW fans watched in awe as a recognisable WWF creation threatened to change everything about the promotion they'd bought tickets to see. Then, Eric Bischoff's storyboarding took things even further in coming weeks.
