Debut: Like Mordecai, the Edge character had been explored during a string of vignettes that aired on TV to build him up as a big deal. He'd successfully sidestepped Vince Russo's reported plan to introduce a mute gimmick (meaning Edge wouldn't cut any promos at all), and looked set to make a splash on the WWF/WWE roster as a hot new babyface once he debuted in person on the 22 June 1998 Raw.

Why It Was Bad: That first match was actually taped back on 16 June, meaning Edge had to sit there for almost a full week and wonder how the WWF's magical production team would cover for his embarrassing moment. Newsflash: They didn't! Therefore, Edge was shown injuring journeyman pro Jose Estrada Jr's neck during a dive spot to the outside gone wrong.

In fairness to production, there wasn't a lot else they could show off. The match had to be cut short once it became clear that Estrada was too injured to continue, and a visibly frustrated Edge yelled out inside the ring. At the same time, he had to be crapping his pants over surefire fallout backstage. After all, this wasn't the WWF's fault - they'd given Edge a platform to show his wares.

He'd injured someone super early into his federation career, which was hardly the best first impression to be making on such a stacked roster. Thankfully, Jose was able to bounce back from this and start wrestling again. Edge, who'd go on to become a WWE Hall Of Famer and multi-time World Champion, can't exactly ever look back fondly on his debut though.
