Like Steve Miller sang: take the money and run.

Jeff Jarrett was in an odd place in 1999. Although he had a solid midcard presence and racked up multiple titles, it was clear he was never going to reach main event status. Part of this had to do with his heat with then-top dog Steve Austin, but also the fact that he was feuding with Chyna in a hokey "men are better than women" feud.

With his friend Vince Russo leaving for WCW to become head writer, Jarrett decided that it was time to once-again leave WWE. The problem, however, was that while Jarrett's contract had run out, Russo had conveniently neglected to book him dropping the belt before he left. Thus, Jarrett had the upper hand in negotiating a one-night appearance to lose to Chyna.

Thus, Jarrett got over 300,000 dollars to work a "Good Housekeeping Match" before scurrying off to WCW. After that company flopped, Jarrett was able to use that money to help start up TNA: the company that just won't die.

So while things ultimately worked out for Double J, WWE were... not happy with him for a long time.
