19 Things You Probably Missed From WWE SmackDown (July 9)

19. Old Gimmicks Die Hard

Robert Roode Dolph Ziggler

One has to feel sorry for the 'Dirty Dawgs'.

WWE seems to have iced the tag-team for now. At least they're still part of the SmackDown intro though, right? Well, yeah, but Robert Roode is shown in his 'Glorious' get up instead of the rocker fashion he wears alongside Dolph Ziggler on TV.

SmackDown's production team really could've asked for an updated clip of Roode for that, or made the duo look less like some thrown-together afterthought. Anything that reflected their status as a full-time unit would've been nice.

18. Never Missing A Chance

Paul Heyman Roman Reigns

Who knows if Roman Reigns knew that Paul Heyman would spring into action and hold the curtain for him at Gorilla, but he did. The "special council" never misses the chance to be a sycophantic suck-up to the reigning Universal Champion, and it's wonderful.

The fact that Roman didn't reach out for the curtain himself suggests that he knew Paul E would be there for him. What a double act this is.

17. “NFL Football Player”

Roman Reigns Paul Heyman NFL
WWE

Awkward.

WWE's relentless zest for hype meant that Reigns was called a "former college and NFL football player" on his entrance graphic. That's technically true, but the future WWE megastar never really got going in the NFL before dropping down to the CFL and then retiring from the sport to pursue wrestling.

His stints with both the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars (Hi, Tony Khan) were short and unsatisfying for the guy. In fact, he never made one appearance for either team in the regular NFL season, so it's interesting that WWE hyped his footballing past here.
