2 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (May 8)
Ups...
2. The Intensity Of Former Besties
Finally, you might be thinking, some positives.
It's not Sonya Deville or Mandy Rose's fault that WWE booked their finish the way they did. All both women could do was make the best of things, and they tried by injecting their match with a seriously cool dose of welcome intensity. At times, it seemed as though they genuinely hated one another.
That's promising, especially if the company want to run further grudge matches between the pair. They'd be perfect for some sort of Extreme Rules stipulation bout (locking both in a cage and/or giving them weapons to use makes sense), because they blatantly know that their brawls need to be violent and explosive from the first bell.
Little touches, like Sonya clawing at Mandy's eyelashes and face, drew clearly defined lines between heelish brutality and babyface fire. It's good stuff, and it would've been better without the cop out finish. At least anyone enjoying this feud knows that Deville and Rose are on the right track.
