WCW had very few homegrown talents in the latter half of the 90s, opting instead to focus on ready made stars imported from WWF. However, there were a select few that managed to break the glass ceiling; despite the double-glazing reinforced by the nWo.

The two biggest stars to make it through that ceiling and grab the proverbial brass ring were Bill Goldberg and Diamond Dallas Page; one riding a wave of an unbeaten winning streak and the other making a name for himself as a blue-collar people’s champ.

In a stroke of a booking genius, WCW would set Goldberg and Page on a collision course for Halloween Havoc ‘98, with the World Title on the line and Goldberg’s streak in the balance.

The bout is viewed by many as Goldberg’s finest in-ring performance and Page, a newcomer to the main event scene himself, did a fantastic job of helping him through the match. The match is helped further by the fact that the crowd is genuinely into it every step of the way, not knowing who will walk out victorious.

Unfortunately for WCW, this was also the infamous show that notoriously overran, leading to the cable companies pulling the plug on the show before it concluded. Consequently, a large portion of the world missed out on shows closing moments, leading to WCW having to re-air the entire main event on Nitro for free the following day.

Luckily, the match is viewable today in its entirety, without disruption, on the WWE Network...assuming you’ve paid your subscription fee and electric bill.
