20 Superstars Who Only Had One Championship Reign In WWE
1. Ricky Steamboat
A master between the ropes and an un-hateable babyface, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat made a name for himself in the National Wrestling Alliance as a multi-time US and Tag Team Champion before jumping to the WWF in 1985. In 1986, Steamboat first crossed paths with "Macho Man" Randy Savage - and thus began one of his most famous rivalries.
The two would meet in the ring in a now-legendary bout at WrestleMania III. After an impeccably choreographed battle, Steamboat reversed a Savage scoop slam to pin the Macho Man and win the Intercontinental Championship. Despite winning the championship in one of the greatest matches in wrestling history, Steamboar's reign with the gold ended just 65 days later as punishment for taking time off. The reason why Steamboat was taking time off? To be with his wife for the birth of their son.
Classy move, Vince.
Considering what Steamboat would do after he left the WWF - including his historic trilogy of matches with Ric Flair - it's bonkers to think that the company would deny him lasting success over something so petty. Still, WWF's loss was everyone else's gain, and Ricky was able to carve out one of the greatest careers of all time with just one WWF title reign to his name.
