Until Hulk Hogan defeated Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III, there was a significant portion of the population for whom Andre the Giant WAS PRO WRESTLING. In fact, Andre main eventing against Hulk Hogan is likely (more than the first Wrestlemania) what put pro wrestling truly front-and-center for mainstream pop culture. Andre was (and actually still is) a mythical performer, and when Hulk Hogan vanquished the man, he vanquished the myth as well. Putting together that type of moment in business is what makes Vince McMahon a billionaire, and in likely attempting to soon do the same with Brock Lesnar, allows him to create a legacy.
