This character was introduced for the sole purpose of promoting Hulk Hogans film, No Holds Barred. Apparently, someone thought that it would be a great idea to have an actor, who happened to be muscular, wrestle against someone with many years worth of experience like Hulk Hogan. Say what you want about Hogans wrestling ability; at least he knew how stupid it was to try and have an actor come in and pretend like hes a competent wrestler. Zeuss rivalry with Hulk Hogan was based on the idea that Hogan got top billing and he didnt. It was a stupid attempt to justify Zeus appearance in a pro wrestling ring, but it didnt stop WWE from trying to make Zeus into a big deal. They gave him his gimmick from the film, as an unstoppable monster who no-sold his opponents most devastating maneuvers. As useful a formula this is for getting Superstars over (it worked for the Undertaker, after all), Zeus simply could not wrestle properly. Part of this is because Tom Lister, the man behind the character, was born with a deformed retina in his right eye, which made coordination difficult. Also, he wasnt trained properly to wrestle, and had to rely on Hogan to carry the match. And as big a star as Hogan has been for WWE, technical wrestling and being a ring general were never his strongest suits. Zeus was meant to be a short-term gimmick for Hogan, a temporary throwaway feud that would last only a few months, much like many of the mini rivalries the Undertaker would go through over the course of his career. What WWE shouldve done instead was keep Hogans focus on other wrestlers who wanted his World Title, instead of bringing in an actor and trying to teach him how to wrestle in so short a period. And to think, WWE wanted Hogan vs. Zeus to be a WrestleMania main event. Imagine the ticket sales if that were the case
