As aforementioned, Bill Goldberg came out of nowhere in late-1997 to become one of the few homegrown success stories WCW management could crow about. A genuine main event star in the eyes of the fans, people loved watching Goldberg mow down everyone in his path. At Starrcade 1998, that winning run would come to a dramatic end, and many have attributed this as the beginning of the end for the company. Facing Kevin Nash on the big event for his WCW World Title, Goldberg looked unstoppable. By the end of the match, his star would be tarnished, as Nash walked away with the belt and became the first man to beat Goldberg. Scott Hall blasted the man with a taser, making him easy-pickings for his fellow 'Outsider', Nash. Since the match, Nash and others have claimed that Goldberg had to be beaten at some point. In fairness, it's likely that fans would have lot interest eventually in his Superman-like act, but it was still popular in 1998. WCW could have booked this one a lot better, but regardless of the circumstances, it was still a true 'WTF' moment.
