18. February - Double O, Double M, Double G
Meteorologists in Tartarus recommended woolly jumpers for the first ever time back in February, when it was announced that Jeff Jarrett - yes, Jeff Jarrett - was to be inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame. Apparently all our calendars had skipped a month to 1 April.
Back in 1999, Jarrett had made an acrimonious split from WWE when, with his contract due to expire, he was asked to drop his Intercontinental Title to Chyna. Jarrett agreed - supposedly on the condition that the company furnish him with a cool $300,000.
Vince was left with no choice but to acquiesce. Knowing his bridges were well and truly burned, Jarrett marched directly to Atlanta, where in an act of extreme spite, Vince Russo immediately installed him as WCW's top dog. In many ways, he was spiting himself.
When WCW closed its doors two years later, WWE acquired a slew of the fallen promotion's contracts - amongst them Jarretts. Would there be a reprieve for the ersatz country music star? Nope: live on an episode of Raw, McMahon effectively fired Double-J, telling the world he was G-O-O-N-N-E-E.
That was that, then, and as a retort, Jarrett and father Jerry formed NWA:TNA in the hopes of directly challenging WWE's new-found hegemony. He became the very definition of persona non grata.
Except apparently not. Truly, nothing can ever be ruled out in wrestling.
