All these months later, it's safe to safe that the Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 32 should have been Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn, which was what fans wanted all along. Both men were involved in the Ladder match we received instead, but the rest of the crop of combatants were completely forgettable. Sin Cara? Stardust? It was no wonder few fans cared about the contest going in.

Thankfully, the match exceeded expectations in kicking off the event on a high note and everyone shined at one point or another. It was almost too obvious Owens or Zayn was winning, so Zack Ryder pulling out the upset victory was an amazing moment no one saw coming. It was especially awesome for The Long Island Iced Z, who had been overlooked since his previous push fizzled out four years earlier.

WWE could have had him run with the title for a few months and tell a Cinderella story of sorts with him. But it was only less than 24 hours later he dropped the belt to The Miz. On the bright side, it resulted in a career resurgence for The Miz and the return of his wife Maryse, but it didn't do Ryder any favors, who has been an undercard competitor ever since.
