25 Crazy WCW Facts (That Get Progressively More Ridiculous)
7. Before There Was Hell In A Cell 2019…
Remember, one entry ago, in which the complete idiocy of losing a Falls Count Anywhere match via count-out was compared to getting disqualified in a No Disqualification match? That was just an analogy, obviously. No promotion would ever be that stupid. That’s impossible. Except, of course, WCW did precisely that.
Incredibly, Bam Bam Bam Bigelow was also involved in this finish. Nobody can blame this one on Vince Russo, either. It’s an oversimplification to blame Russo for the death of WCW; the promotion was booking Vince Russo finishes months before Vince Russo even turned up. Swerve!
On the May 3, 1999 episode of WCW Nitro, Bam Bam Bigelow fought the former Sandman, Hak, in a Hardcore match. It was the usual fare. Bam Bam basically spent the entire duration blasting Hak through multiple tables. At some point, Brian Knobbs arrived on the scene. Trust him to play a role in a gaping logic gap; when he interfered and attacked both men, the referee threw the match out, declaring a no-contest.
Again, this should not even need to be said, but it is (or should be) impossible to disqualify both participants in a No Disqualification match because there are no disqualifications in a No Disqualifications match.
When the WWE product of 2019 is compared unfavourable to dying-days WCW, it’s because of this sort of thing. The finish to the infamous debacle that was the Fiend Vs. Seth Rollins at Hell In A Cell 2019 was effectively this. Even WCW didn’t present it as a pay-per-view main event, mind.
